Our story
It started with a rug that never touched the floor.
AtlasHomeDeco began with a single Taznakht rug bought in a mountain market and carried home in a suitcase. It was too beautiful to walk on. So it went up on a wall instead — and the room changed completely.
That is the whole idea. These are not floor coverings that happen to look nice. They are textiles with the weight, colour and presence of artwork, made by weavers whose families have worked the same patterns for generations, and they deserve to be seen at eye level.
We work directly with weaving families in the Taznakht region, buy at prices we agree openly, and photograph every piece exactly as it is — the slight asymmetries included. What you see is what arrives.
Taznakht heritage
A language of diamonds, zigzags and open ground
Taznakht sits in the Anti-Atlas, south of Ouarzazate. Its weaving is known across Morocco for dense, saturated colour set against fields of undyed wool, and for motifs that carry meaning rather than decoration.
The vocabulary is old. Diamonds stand for protection, zigzags for water, combs for the weaver herself. Because the patterns are held in memory and improvised at the loom, no two panels resolve the same way — a motif shifts by a row, a colour runs out and is replaced with what is at hand, and the piece records the decision.
Wool comes from highland sheep whose fleece is dense enough to survive Atlas winters. It is washed, hand-spun, and dyed with madder, indigo, pomegranate and henna, or left in its natural greys and creams. That is why a Taznakht piece feels warmer in a room than any printed textile: the colour has depth because it sits in the fibre, not on it.
From rug to wall art
Why we hang them
On a floor, a handwoven rug is walked on, moved under furniture and slowly worn down. Its pattern is seen in fragments. Vertically, the whole composition reads at once — and the light catches the pile the way it catches a painting.
There is a practical argument too. A wool panel absorbs sound, softens hard modern rooms of glass and concrete, and adds texture where paint and framed prints cannot. It is the fastest way to make a new interior feel lived in.

Handmade
The irregularities are the point
A machine-made rug is perfect and says nothing. A handwoven one carries the record of its making: a row that tightens where the weaver worked late, a border that adjusts to the wool that was left, an edge that is not quite straight.
We do not correct any of it, and we do not describe it as a flaw. It is the difference between an object and a product.
