The method we recommend for almost every piece is a slim wooden rail. Sew a fabric sleeve along the back of the top edge, slide in a batten cut 2 cm narrower than the rug, and rest the batten on two brackets. The weight spreads evenly, nothing pierces the weave, and the panel hangs flat. For pieces under about 6 kg, a row of small hooks or a curtain rod through sewn loops works just as well. Never drive nails through the textile itself.

As a rule, the piece should occupy roughly two thirds of the wall it sits on, or two thirds to three quarters of the width of the furniture beneath it. Above a three-seat sofa, that usually means 150–200 cm wide. On a narrow hallway wall, a portrait panel of 90–120 cm reads better than anything wider. Send us a photo with a rough measurement and we will tell you what fits.

Most of our pieces can be, but we do not recommend it. They are selected for pattern and colour that reads at a distance, and many are older or finely woven — foot traffic wears them in a way that cannot be undone. If you want a rug for the floor, tell us and we will point you to pieces that are robust enough.

Every piece is woven by hand on a traditional vertical loom in the Taznakht region. There is no machine production anywhere in the process — the wool is hand-spun, the dyeing is done in small batches, and a large panel takes a single weaver between three and eight weeks.

Highland sheep wool, almost always. It is dense, slightly lanolin-rich and takes natural dye beautifully. Colour comes from madder root, indigo, pomegranate rind, henna and walnut husk, or the wool is left in its natural cream, grey and brown. Some pieces include a small amount of cotton in the warp for stability.

The patterns are held in memory and improvised at the loom rather than copied from a chart, so no two panels resolve identically. Add to that hand-spun yarn of slightly varying thickness and small dye-lot differences, and you get a piece that could not be reproduced even by the weaver who made it.

Very little is needed once it is on a wall. Vacuum on the lowest suction with the beater bar switched off two or three times a year, and air it outdoors in the shade once a season. Blot spills straight away with cold water and a white cloth — never rub, never soak, and avoid detergent. For anything serious, use a cleaner who specialises in handwoven wool.

Yes. For a hung piece we recommend staying between roughly 50 × 50 cm and 120 × 120 cm — a handwoven panel is dense, and past that it needs serious fixings and starts to belong on a floor rather than a wall. Larger walls read better as a pair of smaller panels. Send us the wall dimensions and we will propose a proportion.

Four to ten weeks of weaving, depending on size and density, plus about a week for the sketch and sample stage before that and one to two weeks for delivery. We send progress photographs as the piece grows on the loom.

Yes — send a paint chip, a fabric swatch or a photo of the room and we will dye to match as closely as natural dyes allow. Natural colour has slight variation across a batch, which is part of why it looks alive on a wall, but the overall tone will be what you asked for.

Yes. Every piece is rolled — never folded — wrapped in cotton and shipped tracked and insured. Most orders leave the studio within three working days and arrive within one to two weeks depending on destination. Duties, where they apply, are the responsibility of the recipient.

Return it within 14 days of delivery in its original condition and we will refund the piece. Commissioned custom work is made for one wall specifically and cannot be returned, which is why we agree the sketch and samples with you first.
